The Panda Sun Catcher
This is a 12" round stained glass custom design

Step 1 ~
After drawing out the
patern and numbering
the pieces, I made
a color sketch and
anchored a copy of
the pattern to the
project board. I used
an embroidery hoop
to keep the glass
pieces in place.

Step 2 ~

I  cut the individual
pieces of glass,
grinding the edges
to fit the pattern.
Each piece is numbered to match it's place on the pattern.

Step 3 ~
After wrapping each piece with copper foil tape I removed the hoop and snugged the glass pieces together. Then I anchored them in place with pins.

Step 4 ~

I soldered all the edges together, front and back. Then I finished the outside edge with a strip of hobby lead, anchoring loops for hanging at two points.

Step 5 ~

After cleaning the glass of all flux residue and other chemicals, I used black patina on the solder, then waxed it for a glossy look. Attach a chain and it's done.

Finally...

The best part about glass is how it reacts with changing light. At different times of the day this panda will look different - thought the glowing eyes are a bit disturbing...
